This month's Student Focus feature two of my most recent students, twins Jon and Rhys. Read on to find out more of why they have both really impressed me the past month.
Please don't forget to review Matt Hurt Guitar Tuition on Facebook and Google.
I have been waiting until I had the right amount of students to put an idea like this into the wild.
At the end of this term I'd like to put on a
to showcase all the hard work you have put in. It should be a fairly casual affair, probably split into a few groups, most likely decided by age. Not only is it a great way to give the students some performing experience, but it gives parents, friends and family the chance to see how far you or your child have come this term. It is also good to give yourself a tangible deadline to work on a piece to have ready for performance.
Please let me know if this is something you or your child would be interested in being a part of.
Jon and Rhys*
Twins Jon and Rhys are two of my more recent students. We've been working together for about 2 months now. I visit them every two weeks and their progress has really astounded me.
Jon has down syndrome. Lisa first contacted me to get lessons for Rhys, but after our initial conversation she thought it might be a good idea if Jon could sit in on the lessons too. So with Jon we've been looking at simple ukulele chords that he can play along with Rhys. At first Jon's attention span was understandably fairly short. I was a new person coming to their home trying to teach him something new. Lisa is great, she sits in with Jon and helps him with the chord fingering while he strums the instrument. We're now at a stage where Jon can sit in on a whole 45 minute lesson and not want to have a break. He's definitely a music lover, we have a new request for different film music every week! Shrek 3rd and Mary Poppins seem to be the favourites.
Rhys is also coming on leaps and bounds. He seems to be one of those people with a great ability to learn quickly. We've started with a piece called 'The Man Who Never Lied' by Maroon 5. The chord structure in the piece is a fairly simple progression, but he picked it up so quickly we've been adding in more intricacy each week. Even when I think I'm showing him something that'll take him a while to pick up he has it by the end of the lesson! I think we'll have to watch out for this one, he'll be teaching me soon!
I'm really excited to see where both these awesome lads can get to. Many thanks to Lisa for allowing me to showcase your brilliant boys.
